ROME DEVELOPER CONFERENCE 2021

LEVEL UP - Rome Developer Conference is the first international conference in Italy entirely focused on both the design and the development of video games, simulations and interactive works.

Set for the first time in 2018 with the aim of spreading the most up-to-date and innovative knowledge on matters like science, technology and interactivity languages across our Country, LEVEL UP - Rome Developer Conference is produced by Accademia Italiana Videogiochi together with the Polo Tecnico Professionale GALILEO.

In 2021 the event, now at its fourth edition, will be entirely free and will take place from 21 to 23 September in two formats:

LEVEL UP Developer Days

  • only online

  • The event will provide the industry’s most advanced know how gathering over 50 of the most important developers from 3 continents and 15 countries, themes from the areas of Game Design, Programming, 3D Art, Music for video games, Business and Marketing, Production and Managemet (machine learning, digital sculpture , virtual reality, artificial intelligence, AR, MMORPG, mobile, narrative design, copyright protection, serious game, alternative tech, programming techniques, indies, procedural, inclusivity ...)
  • For the first year, we will host the Italian qualifying leg of the Nordic Game Discovery Contest (NGDC), the prestigious international prize contest for videogame creators. 3 teams selected by a jury of industry experts (publishers, journalists, international developers) will compete with pitches and presentations of their projects 

LEVEL UP School Days

  • both online and on site at the ITIS “Galileo Galilei” in Rome, one of the most ancient high schools of technical-industrial training in Italy
  • in Italian, for the speakers invited to Institutional and Technical Panels set in the Lecturer Hall
  • the latest and most meaningful topics on matters such as digital creation, career guidance related to new technologies, video game development, prototyping of video games in schools for the development of STEAM skills and integrated knowledge (medicine, aeronautics, cinema, neuroscience etc.)

AIV - Accademia Italiana Videogiochi, the first game developer school in Italy. Founded in 2004, AIV trains more than 1000 developers each year and its former students work in video game developer studios such as Sega, Ubisoft, Epic Games, Sony, Rockstar Games, Techland, CD Projekt RED, Codemaster, Netflix.

Since 2019, AIV has introduced video games as a teaching tool in high schools, creating innovative integrated teaching projects, PCTO (former school-work alternation), curves of outgoing skills.

NORDIC GAME DISCOVERY CONTEST

The italian event of the Nordic Game Discovery Contest will be hosted for the very first time at the Level Up - Rome Developer Conference. A thrilling international challenge that gives young teams (generally composed by 5-8 developers) the opportunity to present their video game project to a jury of industry experts. Each team competes by simulating what they do when they propose a game to a publisher. The winning team wins the opportunity to access the final of the challenge, which gathers every year all the winning teams from more than 14 countries.

AULA VR - POSTAZIONI DIDATTICA IMMERSIVA

Through the tool of the videogame as an educational and scientific media, AIV features the very latest Virtual Reality technologies, offering a personal interpretation of VR development. In this laboratory, students can experience firsthand Virtual Reality experiences selected and created by AIV.

GAME JAM "STUDENTS FOR FUTURE"

A 3-day game jam aimed at all upper secondary school students, in which participants will have the opportunity to come together as a team and experience the process of creating a videogame product, starting with a theme that will be announced at the beginning of the jam. The game jam intends to promote and enhance the digital skills developed by students during their curricular activities, integrated teaching, alternation between school and work, focusing on related hard skills (e.g. knowledge and use of computer programs, English language, transposition and adaptation of a story or a historical event into a videogame cultural product) and soft skills (e.g. flexibility and adaptability, problem solving, motivation and goal orientation, creativity and proactivity, time management and skills organization, ability to work in a team). Students will be supported by tutors from AIV - the Italian Videogames Academy and from indie development studios.
